Total number of southern elephant seal adult cows at Macquarie Island 1988–2014. Counts of animals are conducted during a specific period in October and have been adjusted to estimate total numbers on 15 October. The estimated uncertainty is ± 5%. Limited resources after 2004 have reduce the frequency of the count to once every 5 years. Data from the Australian Antarctic Data Centre. Data used by the Department of Environment and Energy to produce graph at Figure ANT12 in the Antarctic environment theme of the 2016 State of the Environment Report, available at
