CFA's preventable residential fire fatality data captures fatalities as a result of residential fires that were started accidentally or as a result of a fault, failure or misuse of an electrical or gas appliance. Not included in these data are fatalities as a result of suspected homicide or suicide, or as a result of a bushfire. These data are captured for CFA to meet their statutory obligations and to identify areas for intervention (e.g. product recalls). The data outline the number of preventable residential fatal fires per year in the state of Victoria.
