Historic ward boundaries

Created 07/06/2025

Ward boundaries in the City of Sydney local government area (LGA) have shifted many times, dramatically affecting the number and character of people entitled to vote. The redrawing of ward boundaries was largely done to redress imbalances as the demographic makeup of the area changed over time. Ward boundary maps are a key resource to enable access to the online City of Sydney Assessment Books. These volumes detail property assessments from our incorporation in 1842, until 1948, when the NSW Valuer General's Department took over the task of assessing property value.
