Connected waterways are critical for the survival of aquatic organisms, particularly fish. Fish need connected waterways to grow, find food and shelter, breed, find refuge and re-establish populations after disturbance. Barriers that can cause disconnection of waterways such as road crossings, dams, weirs are a significant impact to the conservation of native fish and aquatic ecosystems. This dataset documents the human made stream barriers in the ACT conservation estate, assesses the degree of blockage they cause and their priority for modification to improve fish passage.Fit for purpose: Can be used to locate fish barriers in the ACT Conservation Estate as at 2018. Modifications to roads and barriers may have occurred since. XY coordinates have been taken in the field with a hand held GPS in WGS84 and converted to GDA2020 MGA Zone 55. Scale is approximately 1:1000 (or 10m accuracy).Updates: Inspections last undertaken in 2018.
