ACTGOV RFMP - Fuel Break Upgrades

Created 04/10/2024

Updated 04/10/2024

This dataset displays the position and extents of fuel breaks that have been identified to be upgraded in the RFMP 2019-28. Strategic fuel breaks are usually located between assets and surrounding rural areas or bushland. Fuel breaks typically consist of an area of variable width next to an existing track or road where bushfire fuels are maintained at lower levels. The lower fuel levels within fuel breaks result in much reduced fire behaviour. In this way, they provide a defensible space in which fire fighters may work with increased safety to protect assets, usually associated with back-burning activities during fire suppression operations. They also provide an opportunity to ‘break-up’ fire runs and assist with prescribed burning operations.
