Age vs Depth profile of core GC14, collected from the Capricorn Channel off the Eastern Australian Coast

Created 24/06/2017

Updated 24/06/2017

A gravity core (GC14) was collected from a depth of 2004 mbsl within the Capricorn Channel, southern Great Barrier Reef (GBR). Isotopic values for 18-O and 13-C were obtained from : Globigerinoides ruber and correlated with the SPECMAP age-model. It appears that the core extends back to MIS 3 (Marine Isotope Stage). From limited depth matching with the Martinson et al. (1987) SPECMAP age-model it is extremely difficult to determine a sedimentation rate, however, it exhibits a relatively uniform rate throughout the core of ~4cm/kyr. This is a fairly high sedimentation rate for a core this distal and abyssal.
