Air Quality Monitoring - 2010

Created 24/02/2025

Updated 08/04/2025

Period of operation: 1 January to 31 December 2010

Site location: Latitude: -27.6125; Longitude: 153.1356

AS/NZS 3580.1.1 site classification: Neighbourhood

AS/NZS 3580.1.1 compliance (pollutants): Complies, except for:

  • Trees above height of PM10/PM2.5 inlets within 5 metres south and west of the monitoring site. AS/NZS 3580.14 compliance (meteorology): Complies, except for:
  • Located below the upper level of a ridge running roughly northwest-southeast.
  • Trees within 10 metres of the monitoring site (below height of wind sensor).

Wind: Mechanical cup and vane sensor (to 24 August 2010); ultrasonic sensor (from 25 August 2010)

  • Height above ground level: 10 metres.
  • The wind direction sensor is aligned to magnetic north. The reported wind direction is referenced to true north by application of a magnetic declination correction of +11 degrees to the sensor output value.

Temperature: Capacitive ceramic sensor

  • Height above ground level: 3 metres.

Ozone, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, benzene, toluene and xylenes (total): Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (DOAS) analyser operated in accordance with AS/NZS 3580.15

  • Values are average concentrations over 250 metre light path running east-west from (-27.6117, 153.1382) to (-27.6125, 153.1359).
  • Instrument output offset and/or scaled based on instrument calibration data.

PM10: Tapered Element Oscillating Balance (TEOM) Model 1400AB operated in accordance with AS 3580.9.8

  • Measurement values do not compensate for loss of semi-volatile components from the collected particulate matter.
  • Instrument output values are adjusted in accordance with US EPA equivalence designation method EQPM-1090-079 requirements (scaled by 1.03, offset by +3.0).
  • After adjustment, negative hourly PM10 concentrations less than -0.5 µg/m^3 are removed and concentrations between -0.5 µg/m^3 and 0.0 µg/m^3 are set to 0.0 µg/m^3.

PM2.5: Tapered Element Oscillating Balance (TEOM) Model 1400AB operated in accordance with AS 3580.9.8 with a PM2.5 size-selective inlet fitted

  • Measurement values do not compensate for loss of semi-volatile components from the collected particulate matter.
  • Reported values are unadjusted instrument output values as per the requirements of the Air NEPM Technical Paper on Monitoring for Particles as PM2.5.
  • Negative hourly PM2.5 concentrations down to -5 µg/m^3 are reported.
