This data set spatially depicts commercial fishing blocks for the Tasmanian rock lobster, giant crab and scallop fisheries. Information is stored in selectable area polygons showing fishing block numbers. The base data is currently held in GDA 94 geographic datum (i.e., Latitude and Longitude).

These fishing blocks were introduced to commercial fishing logbooks in 2007. Commercial fishers submit their catch and effort data to the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE) for management, research and stock assessment purposes. The fisheries research is conducted by the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS).
