Coverage of treatment interventions (pharmacological, psychosocial and rehabilitation and aftercare services) for substance use disorders

Created 31/05/2018

Updated 03/08/2021

Alcohol and other drug (AOD) treatment services across Australia provide a broad range of treatment services and support to people using drugs, and to their families and friends.

There are also primary prevention and early intervention programs aimed at delaying drug and alcohol use, and providing information and support for reducing harms and impact of drug and alcohol use.

The Commonwealth is providing an investment of more than $690 million over four years (from 1 July 2020) for drug and alcohol treatment services. This funding aims to improve the access to, and effectiveness of, drug and alcohol treatment services in the community. This includes a range of services which specifically support women and their families.

The Australian Government also funds a number of alcohol and other drug primary prevention and early intervention projects.
