To monitor coral reef health and diversity, the Long Term Monitoring Program initially conducted video transects before changing to photographic transects upon each of its sites. This metadata record contains information on the type of video format the video transects were recorded on and the model of digital cameras used throughout the program.
From 1992 through to 1998 Hi8, 8mm video, was used before transitioning in 1999 to DV which was used until 2006. From 2006 until present, digital still photos are taken using the following cameras:
