Cetacean acoustic presence by species: TEMPO 2021 Sonobuoys

Created 13/03/2025

Updated 13/03/2025

This data product contains acoustic presence and absences of cetacean species derived from the acoustic recordings made from sonobuoys deployed during the TEMPO voyage. The information in this data product is a spreadsheet containing one row for each sonobuoy deployed, and one column for each type of vocalisation that was detected. Acoustic data were converted into a spectrogram, and these were manually inspected (visually and aurally) by an expert familiar with many different types of commonly detected sounds from cetaceans. Presence and absence of all sounds of each type were given a single score for each sonobuoy. Scores in each cell correspond to analyst's certainty of the presence of that species. Scores range from 0-4 indicating: 4: Analyst certain that call type was present 3: Analyst believed calls quite likely present (with reasonable certainty) 2: Analyst thought calls could possibly have been present (but some uncertainty) 1: Analyst thought calls may have been present (but not very certain) 0: Call type was not detected by analyst blank: Analyst did not inspect for this call type
