Daily weather observations - per site, Australasia (2003 onwards) : temperature, rainfall, wind, evaporation, sunshine, humidity, cloud and pressure

Created 07/10/2024

Updated 07/10/2024

Daily Weather Observations provides observations, for approximately 840 locations, of a number of weather elements each day for a month. Included are daily minimum and maximum temperature, rainfall, strongest wind gust, evaporation, and sunshine, together with values at 9am and 3pm of temperature, humidity, wind, cloud and pressure. Not all stations in the Bureau of Meteorology's network observe all these elements. Therefore, where appropriate, observations from a number of contiguous stations have been combined to form a summary for a single location.

The 840 locations cover Australasia (including outer islands and 3 in Antarctica). Locations can be viewed on a map, at [http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/data/index.shtml?bookmark=201 ]. Locations are also listed [http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/dwo/index.shtml ] by State/Territory, and then place name. Both the map and list provide access to a webpage offering daily weather observation values for that location for the latest month, and links to webpages for each of the previous 13 months. Earlier data (2003 onwards) is available from PANDORA. [http://pandora.nla.gov.au/tep/44065 ], or [ https://trove.nla.gov.au/version/20484691 ] (then click "get this edition", then the link) ]. As well as daily values for a given month, monthly statistics (per month) are also provided. See the DATA QUALITY section, for more details.

Although CDO ( Climate Data Online) [ http://www.bom.gov.au/metadata/19115/ANZCW0503900338 ] also provides daily values, per station, for all years that that station has measured the variable; CDO only offers daily values for rainfall, temperature and solar exposure; but does not provide daily values for evaporation, RH, wind, sunshine, and cloud (which are provided by this Daily Weather Observations dataset). Background info on Daily Weather Observations : [ http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/dwo/IDCJDW0000.shtml ]. Data files containing daily values, per location, can be saved (per month) as PDF or CSV.

Daily Weather Observations also provides a link to the Climate Statistics webpages [see: http://www.bom.gov.au/metadata/19115/ANZCW0503900448 ] for the most relevant (contiguous, and measuring related variables) sites.
