Updated 13/01/2025

This dataset was created after Black Saturday in 2014 to identify the areas of Victoria which had Tree Hazard risk and were no longer safe for fire fighters. A range of variables were assessed to identify areas of higher risk which was used in conjunction with the work completed by Anthony Cheesman in 2014 and 2009 on fire killed ash. This dataset has been updated from the 2016 version and was updated in 2022. This dataset displays Hazardous Tree (HT) risk across the Victorian public land estate. Areas of public land have been allocated to one of four hazardous tree risk categories (1 = Diminished, 3 = High, 4 = Very High) based on the following equation: Eucalypt ecological fire tolerance level + Fire Severity = Hazardous Tree Risk Rating.
