Prior to the introduction of GIS mapping and the Tasmanian Information on Geoscience and Exploration Resources (TIGER) system, all mineral tenements - leases and licences - where mapped on paper. In addition to the individual tenement map, the outline was also charted on a mineral tenement chart, and in some cases a reference to tenement map or survey number was included. As the charts filled up, they would be retired and a new version started with all tenements current at the time transferred across to the new chart. These charts have now all been scanned and a digital index created of the map extents.
