Latrobe Valley Ocean Outfall (LVOO) infaunal monitoring program near 90 Mile Beach, Victoria

Created 13/03/2025

Updated 13/03/2025

The LVOO outfall was commissioned in 1992 to discharge a mixed effluent of domestic sewage and industrial wastewaters, including pulp mill effluent and formation water from offshore oil platforms. This data was collected to assess the impact of the outfall on the surrounding soft sediment habitat. Infaunal samples were collected from an impacted location (Delray Beach) and two control locations (Woodside Beach and Seapray) at depths of 13 to 18 m. Each location (2km x 1km) was separated by at least 20km and consisted of eight random sites within each location. Sampling at each location was undertaken on four occasions between 1989 and 1994.
