Magnetotelluric (MT) data of Tasmania including AusLAMP (Mineral Resources Tasmania)

Created 12/10/2024

Updated 12/10/2024

Natural magnetic and electric field variations measured at dozens of locations spaced throughout Tasmania have been processed to determine subsurface electrical conductivity structure on depth scales ranging from hundreds of metres to hundreds of kilometres. Raw, processed and inverted (3D conductivity) data are available. The 3D electrical conductivity model extends from surface to a nominal depth of 900 km. Acquired as part of the national Australian Lithospheric Architecture Magnetotelluric Project (AusLAMP), a decade-long national MT survey led by Geoscience Australia with the collaboration of state and territory geoscience agencies, universities and other research organisations. Here, the AusLAMP data are augmented by data from two transects of western and northern Tasmania, and integrated with previous commercial exploration data from eastern Tasmania. Data consists of original time-series magnetic and electric measurements, processed data and inversion results (voxets and derived 2D rasters).
