Updated 28/03/2025

A dataset displaying the spatial extent and locations of the reefal and non-reefal marine bioregions of the Great Barrier Reef, which is located off the coast of Queensland, Australia. The reefal marine bioregions are based on the descriptions in Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority Research Publication No. 104: Classifying the biodiversity of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area for the classification page of the representative areas program (Kerrigan et al., 2010) as well as consensus amongst Great Barrier Reef Marine Park (GBRMPA) experts on the boundaries and delineation between reefal and non-reefal marine bioregions. The dataset was created by the GBRMPA on the 31st of March 2001, and is intended to act as a tool to allow users to visualise the spatial extent and location of the reefal and non-reefal marine bioregions of the Great Barrier Reef.
