Marine Wind Warnings

The Bureau of Meteorology issues wind warnings for marine areas in accordance with international conventions. Wind warnings are updated every six hours and cover either today or tomorrow.

Definitions of wind strength used in coastal warnings are:

Strong wind (26 to 33 knots), Gale (34 to 47 knots), Storm force (48 to 63 knots), Hurricane force (64 knots or more)

Note: These wind speeds are 10 minute averages The state wind warnings have been combined into a national product for Web Map Service and Web Feature Service layers.
