The Merchant Vessel Portland is a platform of the Enhancement of Measurements on Ships of Opportunity (SOOP) facility. The vessel operates along the southern coast of Australia between Fremantle (WA) - Bunbury(WA) - Adelaide(SA) - Portland(VIC) - Melbourne(VIC). This is a cargo ship (callsign VNAH ), 184 m length (beam - 28 m, draught - 11 m) Bulk SST is measured by SBE48 hull contact sensor. The sensor is installed in engine compartment and its depth is varied from 2 to 8 meters (depending on loading of vessel). SST data (along with meteorological data from ship AWS) are instantaneous, collected every 3 hours. The data are quality controlled by the Bureau of Meteorology. The daily data are available from eMII shortly after 0000 UTC.
