Molecular responses of sponge larvae exposed to partially weathered condensate oil

Created 13/03/2025

Updated 13/03/2025

This data collection consists of sponge larval settlement data, differential gene expression data and microbial amplicon sequence variant (ASV) data associated with an experiment examining the effects of a water accommodated fraction (WAF) of partially weathered condensate oil on the common Indo-Pacific sponge, Phyllospongia foliascens. Sponge larvae were exposed to six WAF treatment dilutions ranging from 0 to 100% for a period of 24-h and processed for Tag-based RNA-Seq and 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing. Chemical characterisation of the WAF used in this study was perfomed in Negri et al. 2021, with details in the associated repository (https://apps.aims.gov.au/metadata/view/615e208d-f6c7-4b2f-b99e-d4fc50614e48). For full methodological and analytical details please refer to the full research publication, Luter et al. (in review) its supplementary materials and the associated GitHub repository (https://github.com/open-AIMS/sponge-larvae-condensate-toxicity). Additionally, raw sequencing data can be found in the NCBI Sequence Read Archives under BioProject number PRJNA1012550.
