NSW - CRA/RFA - Forests - Lower North East - National Wilderness Inventory (NWI) Delineated Boundary

The delineated wilderness coverage for the NSW Lower North East (LNE) region was developed from the National Wilderness Inventory (NWI) database - see separate metadata in "NSW - CRA/RFA - Forests - Lower North East - National Wilderness Inventory (NWI) Database". The dataset was derived using a set of decision rules developed by the Eden Wilderness Panel and refined by the Environment and Heritage Technical Committee.

The delineated wilderness dataset was used in negotiations for the North East NSW Regional Forest Agreement to fulfil nationally-agreed criteria (JANIS, 1997). The dataset was also used by the NSW Government in a subsequent process for assessment under the NSW Wilderness Act 1987 (EA, 1999).

This is an archived dataset jointly owned by the Commonwealth Government and NSW Governments under the NSW Regional Forest Agreements (RFA) Data Agreement of 31 March 2000.This data is available to the public from the Department and may be used by third parties for unrestricted use provided that the copyright interests of the owners are protected.
