Dating back to 1837, Victorian land subdivision was under a Parish based land registration system. Parishes originate from the division of Counties and are approximately 5 square miles (13 square kilometres) in size. There are 2003 parishes within the State of Victoria and 25 in the City of Greater Geelong.
