The 202223090 dataset contains the underway and ice stress testing data from the voyage. Voyage 9, the ice stress test voyage was a mid-winter trials voyage to test the ship’s plant and associated systems in cold climatic conditions. The vessel departed Hobart at 0900 on the 4th of June 2023, and proceeded south towards the Antarctic ice edge. The weather conditions for the passage south and north were mostly favourable, with some weather routing to minimise rolling. The vessel entered the pack ice at 1500 on the 10th of June 2023 at coordinates 64°43'S 125°24'E and remained in the approximate vicinity during the trials period. While on location, the ship drifted within the pack ice. Propulsion and system testing was conducted during the limited hours of daylight. The vessel departed the pack ice on the 15th of June 2023 and proceeded directly for Hobart, returning 21st June 2023.
