Slocum glider measurements of the Australian North West Shelf in April 2012

Created 12/03/2025

Updated 12/03/2025

A total of four gliders were deployed on the Australian North West Shelf from April 1-21, 2012 with more than 4000 valid glider CTD profiles collected during these three weeks of glider measurements from two of these gliders (gliders 77 and 82). In addition to the CTD measurements made by all gliders, three of the four gliders had a 3-channel fluorescence ECO puck, a 3-channel optical scattering ECO puck, and a beam attenuation meter to make optical measurements (both 77 and 82). The gliders were spaced from the North West Cape to offshore of Dampier and each operated separately nearby clusters of moorings designed to measure internal wave activity. The data were used to study how internal tides affect the assimilation of glider measurements into ocean forecast models.
