This record is an overview entry for biological data collected on Soela cruise SO 3/88. This cruise took place in the eastern Bass Strait, in waters off the NSW coast, and the east, west and south coasts of Tasmania during 10 May - 2 June 1988, under the leadership of Nick Elliott and Lesley Clementson. Biological data collected on this cruise include catches and catch rates of orange roughy. Biological information on 1304 orange roughy and length frequency and sex on several hundred additional roughy. Predominant by-catch was the shark Deania calcea, occasional large catch of slickheads (Alepocephalus spp.) or macrourids. One large catch of the smooth oreo (Psuedocyttus maculatus). Length frequency by sex, and liver weights from a number of the adult shark major species were obtained.
