State Forests NSW Forest Types - VIS_ID 4026

Created 06/05/2025

Updated 06/05/2025

The forest types data set indicates the extent of distinctive plant associations of timber species within a native forest environment. Forest type descriptions are based on Baur (Research Note 17, revised 1989) Lindsay types and Western Red Gum types. This is the prime data set for native forest inventory. The data set is in progress. Generally confined to State Forests with some minor exceptions. The RN17 types are predominantly within a 300 km band along the east coast of NSW with the Lindsay types throughout the Cypress Pine forests of the Western Regions with the Red Gum types around the Murray River. Additional OEH Note: State Forest areas of Forest Typing which have now become NPWS Estate are removed from the latest version by FNSW (after 2011). Therefore this version (which may have been anywhere from 2000 - 2005) has been retained because it contains more mapped areas including what is now NPWS Estate. Please note that only the footprint is supplied. Data custodian is State Forests of NSW. VIS_ID 4026
