The Swan Canning Development Control Area includes the waters of the Swan River (upstream of the Fremantle Port Authority boundary), Avon River (to its confluence with Moondyne Brook), Canning River (to its confluence with Stinton Creek), Helena River (to the lower diversion dam), Southern River (to the Allen Road crossing) and adjoining parks and recreation reserves. The process for development approvals in and around the rivers depends on the location of the proposed development with respect to the Development Control Area.This boundary describes the area previously administered by the Swan River Trust. The responsibility for the management of development within the Swan Canning river system is now part of the functions of the Rivers and Estuaries Branch of the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.
