Tasmanian local government Consolidated Data Collection (CDC)

The Department of Premier and Cabinet's Local Government Division (LGD) has been collecting data from Tasmanian councils annually since 2000. This data collection is called the Consolidated Data Collection or CDC. The CDC covers finances, infrastructure, roads and bridges, land use planning, human resources and disability access. Most of the data is numeric with some text fields and is provided in Excel spreadsheets.

There have been changes to the number of worksheets completed and the data collected since 2000. The financial data is validated by an external consultant using each councils audited financial statements. Other data is checked for completeness but is not validated. LGD provides data to end users such as the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the State Grants Commission, the Department of Justice's Planning Policy Unit and the Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT).

Some of the data collected each year has been incorporated into a data repository which has also been made available as open data. Due to the size of the original repository a new repository was started in 2016 to keep the data from 2015-16 onward (Volume 2 – 2015-2017 - Tasmanian local government Consolidated Data Collection). The initial repository holds all data collected between 2000-2015 (Volume 1 – 2000-2015 - Tasmanian local government Consolidated Data Collection).

A snapshot of data from the CDC is provided on LISTmap. Please note the data is raw data and does not take into consideration factors that may affect true values. For example the 'Total Operating Revenue' may be affected by grants which also would affect the operating surplus. We advise users to look at the full data sets which are available as open data worksheets on LISTdata provided for each council before making conclusions based on the data in the snapshots.

The total value of developments will be shown '$0' if councils recorded this as 'N/A' in the CDC.
