Time-series data from beacon 5 and Yarraville Shoal: 1983-1986

Created 13/03/2025

Updated 13/03/2025

This record describes data from the first long-term, systematic oceanographic measurements in Spencer Gulf, South Australia. The seasonal variations of temperature and salinity, from both large-scale CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) surveys and time-series observations at a fixed station, reveal the manner in which the gulf responds to seasonal influences. This record describes the time-series information that was obtained from a suite of instruments attached to a permanent beacon in the gulf. Initially the instruments were installed on beacon 5 (-32.7283, 137.818) in 6m of water and operated for ~6 months, from April to late October 1983. They were then immediately re-located to Yarraville Shoal (9m) where they continued their maintenance until mid-1986.
