The program commenced in May 1998 and includes sites inside and outside of selected marine protected areas. There are over 100 sites established between Merri Marine Sanctuary in the west to Cape Howe in the east . The methods use standardised Edgar-Barrett underwater visual census methods to quantify: abundance and size of mobile fishes and cephalopods; abundance and size of megafaunal invertebrates; and points-cover of seaweeds and seagrasses. The program also uses stereo video (DOVS) for fish abundance and size measurements and collects data on string kelp Macrocystis pyrifera density and sea urchin barrens. Long term monitoring data by underwater scientific diver census of fish, inverrtebrates and seaweeds for Wilsons Promontory Marine National Park. This data is not official Parks Victoria data and has only been published (temporarily) for the intent of use by Govhack (2016) participants.
