Air Quality Monitoring - 2011

Created 05/05/2025

Updated 05/05/2025

Period of operation: 1 January to 31 December 2011
Site location: Latitude: -27.6125; Longitude: 153.1359
AS/NZS 3580.1.1:2007 site classification: Neighbourhood
AS/NZS 3580.1.1:2007 compliance (pollutants): Complies with the exception of the following:

  • Trees above height of PM10/PM2.5 inlets within 5 metres to the south and west of the monitoring site

AS/NZS 3580.14—2011 compliance (meteorology): Complies with the exception of the following:

  • Located below the level of a ridge running roughly northwest-southeast
  • Trees within 10 metres of the monitoring site (below height of wind sensor)

Wind: Ultrasonic sensor

  • Height above ground level: 10 metres
  • The wind direction sensor is aligned to magnetic north. The reported wind direction is referenced to true north by application of a magnetic declination correction of +11 degrees to the sensor output value.

Temperature: Capacitive ceramic sensor
Ozone, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, benzene, toluene, xylenes (total), formaldehyde: Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (DOAS) analyser

  • Value is average concentration over 250 metre light path running east-west from ‑27.6117, 153.1382 to -27.6125,153.1359
  • Instrument output offset and/or scaled based on instrument calibration data

PM10: Tapered Element Oscillating Balance (TEOM) operated in accordance with AS 3580.9.8—2001

  • Measurement values do not compensate for loss of semi-volatile components from the collected particulate matter
  • Instrument output values are adjusted in accordance with US EPA equivalence designation method EQPM-1090-079 requirements (scaled by 1.03, offset by +3.0)
  • After adjustment, negative hourly PM10 concentrations less than -0.5 µg/m3 are removed and concentrations between -0.5 µg/m3 and 0.0 µg/m3 are set to 0.0 µg/m3

PM2.5: Tapered Element Oscillating Balance (TEOM) operated in accordance with AS 3580.9.8—2001

  • Measurement values do not compensate for loss of semi-volatile components from the collected particulate matter
  • Reported values are unadjusted instrument output values as per the requirements of the Air NEPM Technical Paper on Monitoring for Particles as PM2.5
  • Negative hourly PM2.5 concentrations down to -5 µg/m3 are reported.
