This dataset is a soil association map of part of the Mayvale Land System, Gulf of Carpentaria, Far North Queensland. The Mayvale land system occupies over 1 550 000 hectares (ha). A broad reconnaissance method employing limited field traverses and photo intrepretation were used to identify soils of the area. At 176 sites soils were described and classified (Northcote, 1971) and grouped into fairly broad soil assocations. At all sites where a soil profile was described, a check list of the major species was made.
